finally found a computer fast enough to do the blog! sorry avid fans for the lack of blogs...here goes. Spent two days in Ninh Binh mainly to visit Cuc Phong National Park where tom and i walked through the jungle, 7km didnt seem like it would be hard work but it was - too many noodle soups i fear!
actually it was up and down steep mountains in the boiling heat. Good trek though and we saw a 1000 year old tree - it was actually 4 trees but still pretty impressive. There was also an endangered primate rescue centre there which is home to primates taken from poachers which they are using now as part of a breeding program.
Next day we went to Tam Coc and took a boat trip through the 3 caves along the river, beautiful scenery. We also went to a buddhist wat halfway up a mountain, then climbed up to the top to admire the views. The road is being widened and hotels are being built all along it. Vietnam will be a very different place in a couple of years time.
