Spent Friday night in the hotel, reading about the Queen Mum. After the wild pub crawl of the night before, didn't feel the need to go out again so London was wild and crazy without me. A waste perhaps, of a good Friday night, but I am tired.
Saturday out to Lambeth Palace which I recall not seeing last time I was here. I found it after some searching, and again didn't get to see it, as it is now the home of the Archbishop of Canterbury and not open for tours. Its been his home for 600 years, you think I woulda remembered! I did take some good shots of the Houses of Parliament from The Embankment, then walked along the Thames and took the Tube over to the Victoria and Albert Museum (another thing missed last time also)
Then I walked into Hyde Park, looked at Kensington Palace (where Princess Di lived). I had toured that years ago, when she was in residence. They had a display of her clothes, but the price was so high I didn't go in. I found one little 'memorial' plaque on a walk in the park- otherwise, really nothing to indicate she was ever here. Very sad. I wandered Knightsbridge and the high end shopping and came back to the hotel.
Called Carmello, who was going to meet me at 9- at 10 I realized I had been stood up- ah well, no biggie. So, I went out on my own. Nothing of note until late in the evening- met "Louis" in a pub (he was not my type at all) but we spoke and when I said I didn't really like the choice of bars in the neighborhood, he asked what I wanted. I said "people my own age" so off in a pedi-cab through London to a bar (Quebec). The pedi cab driver was from Serbia and we talked about politics (it is on everyone's minds) and he said he thought most people in the Balkans don't hold a grudge against Americans as they can differentiate between governments and people
Today, gonna get waistcoat, make it to the Tate if possible. Gotta make plans for airport tomorrow! Its over!
