Hey America! See ya in 6 months!!  After meeting all my classmates in the LA airport we boarded our 12 hour Air Pacific flight to Fiji, free drinks included (and I'm now legal)!  I sat next to a very old english lady  and her husband on the plane, she was very interesting to talk to and she gave me some good traveling tips.
After arriving in Fiji we got through customs and checked our extra (Australia bound) bags at the airport and headed to the port to catch our ferry.  The first island resort we had on our itinerary was Kuata.  This islands claim to fame is that 6 seconds of "castaway" with Tom Hanks was filmed here.  Upon our arrival on the island we were greeted by many of the local Fijians singing a traditional song.  On the island we stayed in a dorm style 16 bed room with people from around the world.  Most of the people we became friends with on the island were from Britain, Norway, and one other American.  A few of them had plans to travel to Brisbane in the coming months, so we will most likely be seeing them again once we get settled in Australia.  The nightlife on Kuata consisted of watching a traditional Fijian dance as well as fire dancers and drinking kava.  Kava is a traditional drink made from the roots of a tree native to the islands.  Apparently, It is supposed to make your mouth numb and make you relaxed as well as have crazy dreams none of which happened to me.  After two nights at Kuata it was time to move on to another island resort.  We caught the ferry to go further out into the Yasawa islands.  Our next island resort is called Koravu and offers our first internet connection in a few days!  That is all for now, i'm leaving my hammock in order to return to the beach.  Its a tough life here in Fiji, let me tell you.
