Last night we had trouble sleeping as we couldn't find the controls for the heating.  Finally Tom turned on the air conditioning (in NYC in December) to bring the temperature down to bearable.  We now have the gurgle of the heating system, the engine noise of the air conditioner and various other noises in the night.  At least hand washing dries easily!

During the day we walked a lot.  Our first stop was to a Travel Agency to book our flights after Christmas.  We had plucked up the courage to try booking on-line again and confirmed that we can't use our credit card with an Australian billing address!  Fortunately, unlike in Washington, we could more easily find a travel agency in NYC.  The agent even found a better flight to Portland which partly off set his fees.

We visited the Frick Gallery which Ruth had seen on her first trip to NYC.  The building is beautiful, including stunning timber walls, and the art includes some great old paintings.  We had lunch with a friend, Tarecq at a nearby restaurant.  Then we went to the Apple shop on Fifth Ave so Tom could buy the latest version of the Mac OS software and drool.
