Our first stop was to the English Market which still had signs up welcoming the Queen and Duke of Edinburgh who had recently visited. This is a smaller version of the markets we have in Melbourne, with fresh fruit, vegetables, meat and fish stalls plus a few other stalls like cake and cafes. One butcher’s shop had sawdust on the floors – boy did that bring back memories!
We then walked to Cork University to the Lewis Glucksman Gallery, which unfortunately was in the middle of changing its exhibits so we didn’t go in
We walked back past St Finbarr's Cathedral which we had visited in 2005 and back to the car dodging the sometimes heavy rain as we went.
We then went to visit Blackrock Castle which was not the easiest of places to find, especially when we relied on the street signs rather than the Sat Nav! As someone explained, "all the street signs have been twisted to point in another direction". Eventually we found this old castle and went inside where we discovered the building has been reinvented and is now a science museum. So we had a late lunch in their café instead before making our way back to the apartment.
We all had a wonderful dinner at Fishy Fishy restaurant in Kinsale. This restaurant has a deservedly good reputation and was a great choice for a very pleasant evening out.
