Where I stayed
The Willows, Bucknell
It is now school holidays so the Castle was crowded. We arrived in time to see the Trebuchet loaded and fired. The loading, and spiel, took about 30 minutes and the firing about 1 minute. However it was spectacular. In the preamble we learned that they would load all sorts of things in the sling such as rotten carcases (imagine how these would splat when they landed plus they might infect the water supply), fire and bee hives (also firing these at knights in armour).
Then we got good positions for the jousting demonstration and waited for that
After queuing for lunch we walked through the Castle rooms, returning outside mid afternoon to a change in the weather and thunderstorms.
We left the Castle and walked to St Mary's in the town. This was well presented and the lady was very pleasant and informative. As it was a two hour drive home, we stopped at a pub in a nearby town - one less meal at the Baron of Beef!
