We made an early start this morning, leaving about 09:00, so had plenty of choice of all day parking when we arrived back at Ironbridge shortly after 10:00.  Having secured our spot we thought we would walk to the various museums.  We first visited the famous Ironbridge, built across the Severn in 1780 by Abraham Darby III.  He built it as a toll bridge and to advertise the use of iron.  It was the first bridge to be built of iron and it proved its worth when there were floods a few years later - it was the only bridge to survive relatively unscathed.  It's now only a foot bridge, which we walked across, then continued to Blists Victorian village which was much further than it looked on the map and some was up hill.  We decided on this walk that we'd take advantage of the bus to move between the next ports of call!

Blists village contains buildings from the surrounding area; bakery, pub, squatters' cottage, school - the buildings generally found in such old world villages.  We happened to visit when they were running an Alice in Wonderland weekend so there was special entertainment and some people who had dressed in character which made it even more enjoyable.  We bought some "old" currency - £2.00 bought 5 old pence to use when shopping.  We used it to buy a small pork pie and some mint humbugs from the sweet shop.  It was pleasant strolling around, especially as the weather has finally improved and we can now comfortably wear summer clothes.
