The Willows, Bucknell

The scenery throughout the Lake District is wonderful and we have enjoyed being able to spend a bit of time here.  There is an abundance of mountains (by English standards), greenery including lots of bracken, flowing water and some waterfalls, interesting and different (to Australian eyes) sheep, some cattle and an oversupply of rock and stone such that every building seems to be made of stone.  But now it is time to move on.  It's a long drive to Bucknell in Shropshire, our next stop.  We spent a few hours on the M6, some of them stationary waiting for an overturned caravan to be righted and cleared.  The weather is definitely warming up and it was certainly noticeable sitting in the car on the motorway.

We arrived at The Willows B&B in Bucknell about 18:00.  This is a quaint place.  It was built between 1480 and 1490 using a double cruck frame construction.  We think this means that the roof is supported by one or more solid timber arches.  The floors are very uneven and some floorboards are loose.  We have one loose floorboard outside our bedroom door which bangs if we stand on its end.  There are three bedrooms, the occupants of which all share the bathroom.  We are not used to sharing bathrooms but we are the only booked guests until next Wednesday when other Stedman relations start arriving, so for most of the time it will be our bathroom.
