Back to normal weather. Surprisingly neither of us felt the effects of the unaccustomed exercise yesterday.
We had a late start as Tom needed to free up some disk space and clean up one of his memory cards for the camera. While he did this Ruth waited quietly and patiently! We then drove to Dove Cottage at Grasmere, which is where William and his sister Dorothy Wordsworth lived, joined by William's wife Mary after he married his sister's best friend. Then the married couple had three children, Mary's spinster sister, Sarah also lived with them, as unmarried women could not live alone. Plus they had plenty of visitors who stayed for a while. All this in a 4 bedroom house. The guide told us that there were people sleeping in every room except the cool room, with two to a bed. So they moved to larger accommodation.
Then on to Ambleside which seems to be totally built of stone. Dinner and our Internet fix in a local hotel. More thumbnails ...
Where I stayed:
Wood House, Buttermere
