A wonderful sunny, warm day. Fantastic. We didn't realise how down the weather could make us until we had some sun. We took advantage of it to walk into Buttermere village then around Buttermere, about 5 miles in total. There is mostly a well formed gravel path around the water, but because of all the recent rain, it was under water in places. After a while we ignored the running water and just walked through it, getting our feet wet in the process. Back in the village we sampled the ice cream made locally from the milk and cream from their Ayrshire cows.

In the afternoon we drove into Cockermouth and spent the afternoon at Wordsworth House, where William Wordsworth lived until he was orphaned aged 13 by the death of his father. He and his four siblings were then cared for by relations.

We ate again at Kirkstile Inn as we had enjoyed our first meal there and there isn't a wide selection of places to eat nearby.
