After breakfast the four of us walked along the lake for as far as we could, then headed inland a bit to the village of Buttermere for mid-morning refreshment. It only started raining as we returned. After Ed and Sue left we drove through the Honiston Pass which has also inclines of 25%, through Borrowdale (a valley), to Keswick.
On the way we stopped to visit the Bowder Stone, which is a huge stone balanced on one side. We assume it's perfectly safe as it's been like that for millions of years. The scenery in this area is spectacular, hills, lots of stones, dry stone walls and some buildings built using this technique as well as plenty of other stone buildings, lakes and waterfalls. The cloud formations with the interplay of snatches of sun add to the overall picture.
There were hundreds of people our walking, some were even wearing shorts!
