From Buenos Aires you can take a ferry across the Rio de la Plata to the town of Colonia Del Sacramento in Uruguay. So we thought, why not?

Itīs a very old town, originally built by the Portuguese in 1680 so that they could keep an eye on the Spanish across the water in Argentina. Then the Spanish took control. As a result you have the Barrio Histórico, an area which is made up of convent ruins, cobbled streets, old fortifications, old houses, a lighthouse and a port.

Itīs a scenic place but thereīs not that much to do there! We walked around the old town, had coffee and browsed some of the ubiquitous souvenir shops that every tourist place has. We had a great steak lunch and walked a good few kilometres along the beach. It was an overcast day so no sunbathing, but it was a relaxing day and itīs a another stamp in the passport and another pinpoint on the blog map!
