After all the campervanning and backpacking around we felt we deserved a treat for our anniversary and found an amazing deal on a 5* hotel through a 'last minute' type website, www.wotif.com.au. It was so nice to stay in such luxury for a night but made it hard when we had to go to a backpackers for the rest of our stay in Adelaide, particularly as we had to walk past the hotel again every time we went into town!
We found Adelaide a really good place to spend our last week of exploring Australia. It's not a very big city, when we first arrived we discovered there is a free city loop bus which takes a tour of the city and hopped on expecting to spend an hour seeing the sights for free (we're always on the look out for freebies!)
Another freebie we made use of was the internet at the State Library. Quite a few days of our time in Adelaide we could be found online in the library! It enabled us to catchup on our blog entries and put loads of photos on. The connection was the best we have had so far in 9 months of travelling, so bit sad really but this was very exciting for us!
A couple of times we went to Adelaide Central Market for brekkie. I guess it could be compared to Borough Market in London for those who have been. It was full of mostly food stalls and there were a couple of good cafes inside. Definitely the best way to start the morning in a bustly market cafe people watching whilst sipping fresh coffee and eating croissants and blueberry yogurt from a stall opposite
The weather we had in Australia was fantastic, even though it was winter. We had a couple of days of rain but not as much as we would get at home. It was so much fun exploring Adelaide on foot in the crisp fresh air with the sun shining. We walked across the river one day to North Adelaide, it had a Richmond feel about it - nice streets and houses with the river nearby.
Deciding that we had had enough of driving and because there was not much to see between Sydney and Adelaide, we booked a cheap flight back to Sydney. Sonia very kindly picked us up from the airport (lovely Son has probably been to the airport more that month than in the last couple of years! Thanks Son, we really appreciated all your hospitality x) Since arriving in Sydney we'd wanted to go to Bill Granger's restaurant for brekkie as it's renowned for good breakfasts. If you haven't heard of Bill Granger you've not watched enough BBC foodie programmes! He's an Australian celebrity chef - their answer to Jamie Oliver. So after landing we headed there for some yummy food!
