We know, two entries in two days, but we're catching up with ourselves.

After the safari and Nairobi, we hopped on the coach to Mombasa another hot and dusty ride. We stayed there for two days, saw an old Portuguese colonial fort called Fort Jesus. It was ok to look around, but expensive for what was there. Also we went on a day when there was a group of Kenyan students having a field trip there and they all kept approaching us and asking questions for their 'project' which consisted of the same, slightly annoying questions each time, which went like this;
Student 'Where are you from'
Tom and Sar ' England'
Student 'What language do you speak'
Tom and Sar ' English'
Student 'What is your mother tongue?'
Tom and Sar 'English'
Student 'But what do you speak at home?'
Tom and Sar (confused) 'English!!'
Think you get the picture.

It was the time of the Rugby semi finals and we were staying at a guest house called Evening guest house (8 pounds a night for a double, with toilet!) which was attached to a bar that had satellite TV. The barman promised he would show the rugby and when it came to time for KO, the footy was still on. Only 2 blokes were there, half watching the footy but the bar man was obviously not a rugby fan and insisted on keeping the football on. Very annoying. The next night, guess what the same bar man was showing on the same TV? That's right, the same football match again. Very annoying.

Now for the part where you all get just a little bit jealous! We had heard and read about an island off the coast called Lamu. We decided to visit it and booked some flights there because we were slightly fed up of coaches! We arrived on this tropical island in sunshine, to see the white sand beaches and turquoise sea. We were staying in a part of the island called Shella Beach which we would recommend over Lamu town which is only a mile down the coast. This beach is something like 12km long! You can get a piece of the beach all to yourself for the whole day.

We enjoyed 6 days on the beach, ate a lot of freshly caught Mangrove crab and calamari and generally had a very relaxing time. We actually stayed in a hotel for three nights (Peponi Hotel) and then in Bahari guest house. Both were on the waterfront.

Amazingly we saw the Rugby world cup final on the island. There was a big screen in the town and for just over a pound we had the priviledge of watching England lose!

After six days in paradise we found ourselves back on the mainland and back in the thick of the Africa we have got used to over the last two months. Our next journey was Mombasa to Arusha in Tanzania. Three countries down, seventeen to go......
