Everywhere we go in Uganda, there are signs about CHOGM (Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting) which Uganda is hosting in November 2007. They are improving some of the roads for this visit and have even installed street lights on one road. We hope that they will also get to see other areas and the way things really are here.

We went to Entebbe wildlife park earlier in the week after which we were going to lunch with a friend of Gichuru. On the way we stopped to buy something to take as a gift. We were surprised when Eunice stepped out and purchased a live chicken and put it in the back of the car. It clucked all the way to Fred's house (where we were going for lunch). It made a very tasty meal!

At the wildlife park we came across some monkeys which were free. They seemed to be enjoying themselves teasing the caged monkeys they were sat next to! You know you're in Africa when it's monkeys running round rather than pigeons.

Yesterday we were sad to wave Kerry off, we really enjoyed our first week with her, it was so good to have her here. The only time we were a little scared was when we experienced Kerry's Kampala night time driving skills! Let's just say it was interesting. Tom has also had a drive of Gichuru's 4x4. It was the same evening and it had been raining heavily. He had to use the 4 wheel drive in the end just to get up the track home. Sarah's yet to have a go at this but is looking forward to her turn!

We brought our travel connect 4 game with us and Benjamin (Gichuru's son), has begun to arrange a family tournament. They've all really enjoyed playing it!

We are planning a mission to Mbarara - an area south west of Kampala where Gichuru has several churches. We will be spending a week in 'the bush' taking everything we need with us - food, gas, fuel etc. We leave next Monday for a week. We're not sure if we will be able to update this before then but we'll definitely be back with details after our trip.

Our first week has gone really fast, 51 to go and we hope they don't all go that fast. Still it's a good sign that we are enjoying ourselves. We've met some really great people and Gichuru and Eunice have welcomed us like family. We've had fun hanging out with Daniel & Benjamin. Daniel & Cindy's son Seth is only 1 year old and he is really cute. It's been great making friends with him! It still makes us smile wherever we go when the children run up to us calling 'mzungu'.

Hello
Hi Tom and Sarah, we are over Mum and Dad's at the mo and have just been reading your blog and looking at the pics. Sounds like you are having a great time, a real eye opener. We are all really missing you and thinking about you loads. Elana keeps asking us
'who is going in the world' and we ask her who and she replies 'Uncle Tom and Auntie Sarah'.
We have just arrived back from the New Forest, stayed in a static home there for the weekend. Mum and Dad stayed as well and Rob, Izzy, Dan and Tim came up Sunday for the day for a BBQ wish you could have been there! Love you both and hope you are both enjoying yourselves. Lot's of Love Amie, Dan, Elana and Elissia xxx

Week-end news
Looking forward to your next entry and hearing about all that you are doing. Our week-end was good fun in the New Forest and the weather was great. The sea was warm and the beer was cold - I don't suppose you are missing it though.
Elan says helo and she enjoyed playing in the park with Grandad.
God Bless, Mum and Dad XXX
