We woke up early and headed straight to the bus station and got on the first bus to Trujillo. The bus was very nice with movies all the way and even hot meals served to our seats. The legroom was a bit lacking, but this probably comes down to me being a good foot taller than any of the locals. The trip lasted about 9 hours and we got into Trujillo at about 9pm. Being as organised as ever, we got out the lonely planet and started searching for a place to stay in Huanchaco which is about 15mins by taxi from Trujillo.

I rang the first place and asked in my best spanish 'Hablas Inglis?'. An emphatic 'No' was the response. I frantically flicked to the handy phrases section at the back of the book and tried, on the hop, to assemble a question about a room. It didn't work and after lots of Umming, they hung up on me. Lesson learnt, I worked out what I was going to say for the next place. I rang and again they didn't speak English. I asked in spanish if they had a twin room. They did. I asked for a reservation. They asked me when. They didn't understand 'tonight', 'now', or 15mins in English. I was panicking again. Then it came to me 'Esta Ora' - This hour. That worked out, we got a taxi and found our way there without a problem.

The hotel was cool. Right on the beach with basic but clean rooms and great common areas. Hammocks Everywhere. The whole town just oozed relaxation. We got chatting to a Dutch guy Denis and went down to the local bar for a quick beer before bed. We met some locals playing pool and challenged them to a game to check out the local talent. It wasn't that good and we won twice. One of the locals was a surfing teacher, so with a bit of Dutch courage, we booked in for a surfing lesson the next morning. So much for the 1 quick drink - 5 beers later Glenn, Denis and I were playing a drinking game with 2 German girls. Losing involved Tequilla. Glenn and I gave up at about 2am and headed back for some well needed rest.
