Pawel & Kasia visited us from Poland to spend vacations in Yucatan. After one night in Cancun we drove to Chichen Itza to see one of the seven new wonders of the world - the great pyramid "El Castillo".
I guess I would agree with naming the site a "world's wonder" as a tribute to the overall achievements of the Maya civilization, of which Chichen Itza represents one of the most advanced landmarks. The size, the harmony and all the architectural-astrological aspects of the construction are indeed impressive. What I did not like is that the place is practically all reconstructed in contrast to some other Mayan sites we've seen later on the trip (which were more natural and preserved "as abandoned" centuries earlier); I'm also not fond of places superpacked with tourists - Chichen Itza is definitely one of them. It's one of the most commercialized tourist destinations in Mexico so there is a daily flow of endless visitors, which for me makes a sightseeing less enjoyable..
