Real de Catorce is another place in Mexico you just can't miss. As some other places with difficult access it has till now not been plagued by a mass-tourism (fortunately for Mexican heritage mass tourists don't like hours of bus rides on the local roads and seem to stick to Cancun & Chichen Itza;-)
It is a place where the "Mexican" movie with Brad Pitt and Julia Roberts was shot and to get there we had to pass a long mining tunnel on a horse carriage.
The city is located in a mountain valley (it's an abandoned mining town) and the microclimate makes fruits and vegetables growing there taste amazingly fresh (I guess it must be a combination of altitude, sun and humidity), the valley is astonishingly green. Apart from the local people in the city we could spot occasional "hippie" backpackers from US or Europe, who apparently visit Real de Catorce to enjoy the locally grown weed and peyote.
