Guanajuato is one of the most famous cultural destinations in Mexico. It is a charming colonial style city surrounded by mountains with an impressive network of tunnels underneath (former mining tunnels). Cars practically circulate in those tunnels and cannot enter into many parts of the city center, which makes it quite unique for Mexican standards. Small narrow streets and building painted in bright colors make it a great destination for a day-long sightseeing on foot.

We had a bit of luck as the very Sunday we arrived in Guanajuato was a third day of the famous "Festival Cervantino" - an important cultural event with various performances and artists from all over the world. The city was quite packed!
