Sevilla is like the perfect little Spanish town. Everything about it just reeks of Spain. The architecture, the flamenco, the fact that everything is closed on Sundays... it was a great last stop on our Spanish tour. Our first day was spent checking out the sights, we saw the massive cathedral and got lost in the tiny little jewish quarter, barrio Santa Cruz. And we finally got some great Paella, thanks to our hostel, it was paella night on the rooftop terrace. The next day (Sunday) we checked out the other side of the cathedral, and went to a small plaza we had heard we had to go to, to get fresh baked goodies from nuns. Yes, the nuns make a ton of different kind of cookies, so we had to go get some! And as an added bonus, every Sunday there is a collector's market in the same plaza, so we saw tons of old coins and stamps, and some vintage bullfighting posters. Then we wandered over to the Guadalquivir river and had our paseo along the river front. We were going to check out some of the cute shopping districts, but seriously, everything is closed on Sundays
But the real magic was Sunday night. We finally caught a flamenco show, and this one was worth the wait. We sat down in a tiny little courtyard, with maybe 100 other people. The entire show was just 3 people: the singer, guitarrist, and amazing dancer, with faster than light footwork. I never knew you could make so much noise just clapping your hands and stomping your feet, but the whole courtyard was practically vibrating... and everything was acoustic. It was amazing.
Unfortunately that's about all we had time for in Sevilla, we caught the overnight bus to Lisbon later that night. But it is definitely a worth while 2 days and a great way to leave Spain with a bang.
Giralda Bell Tower
. All the stores, most of the restaurants, its like the whole town just goes in and rests for a day. Caity had to run around for half an hour just trying to find something to cook for dinner... we ended up wiht a tomato for our couscous and a can of beans. But the real magic was Sunday night.
