We checked out one more not-so-sandy beach on the south side, and then made our way to Perissa, which Lonely Planet claims is the best beach on the island
After "beach day", we all headed up to Oia, (ee-ah), which was rumored to have even better sunsets than Fira. Oia is all the way on the northern tip of the island, and we accidentally took the long way around. It was a beautiful drive, except for one horse along the way. He apparently did not like the sound we made, and tried to kick Pam off the ATV!
We made it to Oia about a half hour before sunset, and we weren't the only ones who we told about the great views. The entire town was packed with people on every rooftop, trying to get the best view of the setting sun. We managed to climb up onto our own rooftop, and got a pretty excellent view. Yes, it was the best sunset we've ever seen. Sorry, Arizona. The only uncomfortable part was after the sunset, everyone started clapping, like it was the end of a good movie or something. We weren't sure if they were expecting an encore or what, but if they did, we're pretty sure the same thing happens every day.
We said goodbye to our new friends, and headed back to Kamari beach.
The next day, we explored our own side of town, before having to catch the ferry to Athens. We did have to wait at the port for a couple hours before the ferry arrived as that's the only time we could catch a ride. Thanks for the sunsets, Santorini.
