After a slight detour down into the Fish River Canyon, we realized that the place we were staying wasn't actually in Ai Ais, but along the canyon rim about 60 km away. We arrived at Canyon Roadhouse Lodge and Camping about 2 hours before sunset, set up camp, jumped into the pool, got attacked by flies, changed into dry clothes, treated ourselves to dinner at the lodge, and headed off to bed. The only amazing moment was the sunset we caught as we headed back to our tent. The clouds broke right above the horizon and gave a perfect orange glow as the sun set...as the main body of the clouds were stipes of pink and purple. Maybe one of the most colorful we've seen yet!
morning, we got an early start to the Canyon. At the main viewpoint, we met a couple South African nationals visiting from Switzerland. Such is the life of ex-pats. They gave us a lot of good information on visiting the Cape area
We thanked them for thier help and took a quick hour hike down to another viewpoint. The canyon was closed to overnight and day hiking due to the rainy season and the possibility of flash floods [and extreme heat]. The canyon was beautiful. To put it in perspective though, for those who have visited the Grand Canyon, Fish River Canyon is about 1/2 as deep. Fish River Canyon is the first that Beth has ever seen and she is very excited to visit the Grand Canyon now.

. Toddy is an avid kiteboarder and gave Erik a contact for lessons in Langebaan. The town has a shallow lagoon, steady winds, and is a perfect place to learn to kiteboard. So we decided to adjust our schedule for a four day stay in Langebaan. We thanked them for thier help and took a quick hour hike down to another viewpoint.
