We're here in Oshakati, Namibia.  It's a quick stop to pick up water and some internet time before we head to the north-western part of Namibia.  They only thing we're sure of up there is one gas station...  :)

We travelled through the Caprivi Strip which was a long stretch of bush!  We spent two days in Etosha National Park to find some Namibian animals.  The water holes were quiet at night, which is rare but the stars were enough to entertain us!  One highlight was watching all the animals crossing the Veld together to a water hole the first morning.  Oryx, Zebras, Giraffe, Elephants, Springbok..and then there were two lions sitting in the shade just next to the water hole!  We didn't get a good look at them but we found some later the next day for an amazing close-up!  They must have been about 20 feet away...and very impressive!!

Last night we stayed in Ondangwa at the local historic Owambo museum/camping area.  We stayed in the traditional Owambo homestead in a hut (with mosquito nets) and had a traditional dinner of Mahangu, spinach sauce and a fried chicken...sans utensils.  :)  It was interesting to have birds flying in and out of our hut in the evening.  Things settled down as the night moved on and we got a great night's sleep.

So, we're off to Opuwo and Ruacanna Falls (sp?).  We just wanted to check in and tell eveyrone that we're doing great!  We're eating well, staying healthy and enjoying the trails.

Until Swakopmund...

Love,
Erik and Beth

Swakopmund
Hello, thought I'd leave a message to greet you as you arrive in Swakopmund. Doubt you'll find internet till then. Did you go through any of the Skeleton Coast area on your way down? How was your drive? Gas situation OK? Hope you can kick back here and lounge around a bit. Such a nice place to enjoy the coast. If you have time, could you take some photo's of your footprints together in the sand on the beach in Swakop?

Is Uis your next stop? You must be looking forward to seeing how things are there. Beth, I hope you're able to find your old friends. Are PC volunteers still placed there? Wonder who you'll find in your house. Will you hike in to the White Lady? Keep us posted, I'm looking forward to your update on Uis. Have you been able to locate Nonnie (sp?)

I look forward to your travel blogs. It's good to hear that you're well and everything is going OK.

We had a hard freeze last night and it's sure crisp this morning. Sam doesn't want to linger, he's all about business! Some news, one of my paintings is going to be in an art show in Hudson WI for a month. I'm taking it over there Sat. in the Miata - the last drive of the summer! :-(

Love and Hugs, Mpls Mom

So happy you are having a good time!!!!!
Hello Beth and Erik. I am so thrilled that you are having such a great time. I hope my favorite Minnesotian and My favorite Wisconsinite continue to have such a great time. THis is the first time I check into your travel blog and it is so interesting. You guys write about so many places and so many interesting things. I sat here and read eveyone of your postings. All is good back in the office (TLC). Everyone sends their best wishes to you. Well I won't take up more of your time I know you guys are busy. Long live the great people of the great state of Minnesota. Long live the great people of the great state of Wisconsin. Minnesota and Wisconsin land of the loons, of the wild rice soup, of good cheese, of great dairy cows, of good football, and of just really nice and great and fantabulastic people like Erik and Beth. Luckily the natives of all of the southern African nations get to see/meet two of the best/nicest people that the U.S. has to offer. Anyways, sorry for ranting I get carried away sometimes (but i really mean what I said). Continue doing what you are doing because it is very interesting. I wish you the very best in your travels. Many salutations directly from the other side of the world (Homestead, Florida). Stay safe, peace out! Leon :o)
