Well we tried to cross over to Zambia this morning to spend a few days, but got to the border and turned around and walked right back to Zimbabwe. The new price for visas for US citizens is $100 US per person. We said thanks, but no thanks....so we are back in Zimbabwe and trying to figure out our next step. We can get visas as part of a package with a backpackers on the Zambia side, but they need at least 24 hours notice to process it. We had a reservation for tonight and tomorrow night as part of that
package that was booked before we left, but we were unable to get ahold
of the backpackers via telephone. In order to process the visas they need passport numbers and we don't feel comfortable sending that info over the interenet, so we were going to wait and do it via telephone when we got to Zimbabwe. We may go over for tomorrow night because it is a place that we were very excited to stay at, but right now we are wondering if it is worth the hassle for one night....
Yesterday we went to the falls. Wow is all I can say. It is the dry season now, so water wasn't coming over the whole length of the headwall, but because the water was down, the mist was too, so we were able to get some amazing photos. When the water is up and the falls are full, the mist rises up 3x the height of the falls themselves. This makes viewing very difficult and very wet!!
We watched some rafters go down the river below the falls. Beth saw the kayak spotters and got very excited. We decided we are going to come back in a few years when we can paddle the river together.
Instead of going to the Victoria Falls Hotel for tea, we decided to go to an authentic Shona dinner. We did stop in the Hotel and see the views of the bridge and the Zambezi River. It was an amazing place. This is the type of place that diplomats and world leaders stay at. Wow. But at the Shona dinner, we tried ostrich, kudu, warthog, and impala. We also ate wopani worms and have the certificates to prove it!! We took pictures of the worms to share. Beth didn't even finish hers. It was very big and juicy too though.
If we leave Zimbabwe tomorrow and head off to the Caprivi Strip of Nambia, we may not have internet access for a couple weeks, so if you don't hear from us, don't worry. When we get to Swakopmund (around Nov. 17), we will write.

Zimbabwe, Swakopmund, kudu, warthog, wopani worms... I love when you talk dirty. Good to hear that you are having fun boys. I am dying to see photos. (if you want to keep the worms eating festival private, I will understand) Keep enjoying it and be good.
Hope to hear from you soon again my friends.
This is so adventurous
It is great to here you are both having a wonderful time. I'm jealous that K and I didn't do more of that kind of traveling before having kids. For now, I will just live through you!
Be safe,
Jake
You ate what?!?!?!?!?
This from a kid who would not eat venison???
Admittedly, you like it now....Sounds like you are having a great time...If we don't hear from you because of logistics, be careful and safe..
Love,
Dad
WOW!!
OK I have been wondering who these emails were coming from and now that I know I will stay posted!!What a amazing trip you are on, I wish I could be there with you. You are quite the traveler, I'm glad you found the perfect mate! Please be safe, but have great time. I am enjoying your blog!~E
Stay away from bats!!!!!!!
Amy T-S said to stay away from the roasted fruit bats, as they taste terrible!!!!!!!!
I don't even know where to start!
I agree with Tanner! I'm very jealous that I didn't do more traveling before having Cameron, but I can't wait to see your pictures and hear your stories first hand! And, yah, the worms...I don't think I could have done that! I'm very happy for you guys and happy to read that you are having such a great time! We miss you back here and always look forward to your latest updates!
Thanks
Thanks for the heads up that you'll be in an area where internet is scarce. I would have worried not hearing from you two for several weeks. No doubt you knew that! Wow Erik...you are a man of courage with the worms. Think of the tales you'll be able to tell in years to come. The border crossings are harsh. International travel can be difficult but Visa applications and fees are vexing. I haven't heard anything about the Caprivi Strip in a long time. Hope all is quiet there. You're wise to keep the tank full. What an adventure! Stay safe and healthy. You're in my thoughts daily. Mpls. Mom
photos
You're going to need to have a really BIG photo album for this trip! Digital is great, but it's also fun to circulate a book of photos. Sounds like you are probably on your way to the Caprivi Strip. I remember stopping there via plane, needing to use the RR facilities, & someone turning over a rock to get the key to the tiny airport which was locked so we could go in. Did you both stay healthy in Vic Falls? Beth & I have memories of bad stomach stuff there. Sounds like you ate 4 legged creatures plus worms but no alligators - think that's what got to me (from poluted river.) Did you get to see the 5500 yr. old tree that you mentioned earlier? You guys ROCK! Julie & Donna
Eti!
So yeah, thought I would try some African language. Eti! And that is gross Tommy, worms are for Fear Factor. I don't blame Beth! This is premature, but if you guys don't have anything going on for New Years, a few of us are going to the Myth in Maplewood for New Years Eve. Bret Michaels from Poison and a few other 80's bands are playing. If you guys want to go, let me know and I will purchase tickets for you if they're still available. I know you don't have internet for awhile, and I'm sure New Years is the last thing on your mind, but it would be lots of fun! Drinks are on me! (j/k drinks are included w/ the ticket :) Anyways, have fun on your trip and BE safe!
