We arrived in Kruger Park and spent our first night at Burg en Dal restcamp. Lots of Giraffes, Elephants and Impalas (like deer). It's hard to stay in the car for the whole day but we know what could be right behind that bush... We saw three male lions lounging under the shade of a tree...they were very cute but we stayed in the car! We signed up for a night drive through the campgrounds. Even though we just drove around the same roads that we could have driven ourselves during the day, dusk and early evening is a great time for viewing animals (and we're not allowed outside of the gated camp sites after dusk unless we're with an armed guide). At one point, we had three Cheetahs playing to our left while the sun set on our right. It was hard to decide which direction to focus on! Ten minutes later, we had a rhino mock charging straing for our truck. It took a turn into the bush about twenty feet infront of us. It was so cool to see it as close as it was! Then there were the elephants. If you've seen Blair Witch Project, you know the type of night video we shot of the herd surrounding us. The only light we had was a spot light controlled by a guide. Absolute darkness, Elephant, darkness, baby elephant...etc... Again, very cool to have them so close!
We camped in a wind storm on our third night...it was the first rain storm we've had. Luckily our beautiful tent saw us through it all.
