T'is a travel day on 2007 08 22; must be raining, eh? And so it was; the rain started at 05:00 with showers on and off until I reached Malady Head campsite in Terra Nova National Park. On the way, I stopped at numerous small towns along the Kittiwake coast, such as: Newtown which is rebuilt to look like olden times and Gambo where Joey Smallwood was born and raised. To make good use of the sunshine when I arrived, I quickly unloaded the bike and took a tour down the "Road to the Beaches" ending up at Salvage. I am now all set to explore the park, weather permitting.

I had the best two consecutive days weather since hitting "The Rock," and I almost wore myself out taking advantage of them. By bike, boat and feet, I have scaled Terra Nova National Park's Blue Hill and Ochre Hill, walked in and around some bogs (trying to imitate the moose, me thinks) and cruised Newman Sound watching Bald Eagles fish and jellyfish float 01-Newtown United

I also rode 18km on a dirt road to the town of Terra Nova which was a lumber town but now a "cottage haven" for rich people from St Johns; the abandoned railroad bridge made for a terrific gateway excursion into the backhills. Wish I had a kayak -- this is another place that is built for this mode of transportation.

Will be hitting the road to Bonavista and Burin Peninsula tomorrow 2007 08 25. Stay tuned for more adventures, likely reported from Marystown when I have my batteries recharged.

Tidbits:
- Jellyfish tentacles are in constant motion with some being reeled-in while others are reeled-out plus they must always keep flapping or they sink and die.
- When the "Newfie Bullit" died around 1978, so did all the small spurs into many towns like Terra Nova.
- The Pitcher plant is the Newfoundland Provincial flower; being carnivorous, it sort of out guns our poor Ontario White Trillium.
- Campgrounds are extremely under utilized to date, easily an eighty percent vacancy; everyone says July is their busy season plus the cool, wet weather hasn't helped.
