Slept in van the last night so I wouldn't have to pack a wet tent in the morning, plus it allows me to leave early to drop baby off before hitting Miami Beach. Traffic in Miami is much worse than Toronto -- it took me two and a half hours to go from the Everglades to the BMW dealer on the northwest side of Miami. I was told this was normal for that time of day!
Had some extra time so I wandered through Costco in North Miami and picked up needed supplies (nuts, soup, hiking food and juices - all cheap). After a late lunch, I checked out the beach bunnies on North Miami Beach -- most of the bikini clad women were older than me :-). I'm still surprised at the number of people sucking up the sun when it is bad for them -- anything for the bronze skin, I guess. My nose is red but I have been taken care of it by using the SPF45 everyday, hopefully I won't peel and I do use a hat always when hiking
Moved toward Vero Beach, sleeping at a rest stop along the way; got to see the sun come up over the ocean - a spectacular view but impossible to photograph without some special filters (which I obviously don't have). Met up with Sharon E for lunch; I was a pretty good guesser on the local value of real estate in Vero Beach -- all Florida (and US) homes have taken a real beating over the past year with prices dropping to values three or four years ago PLUS it is still a buyer's market with so many places up for sale. Sharon is looking to resettle somewhere from Daytona to Vero Beaches. After lunch, Sharon took me to her cousin's place abutting a golf course on the A1A side of Vero Beach (read ritzy). Before heading back to the Everglades, I took Sharon to meet Ed and Dee S (a distant cousin on Mum's side of family) so Sharon could talk to people that have lived fifty years in and around Vero Beach in numerous homes -- hopefully this gave her more information on making a decision where to live and when to buy...
After coffee and pie with Ed and Dee, I headed for Miami at 21:00 to reclaim Baby Beemer from her spa the following morning - it took US$450 to get her out of hock; the price of designer name labels I guess. Heading back to Long Pine Key for some R&R and to catch up on some sleep - after I get more supplies of course.
Tidbits:
- The lack of real refrigeration (or a huge cooler) on the road requires more trips to the grocery store.
- Ever notice that cousins seem to have the money in most families :).

. Hooked up with Lynn and Monica G for dinner last night -- had a great time and the Tony Roma's ribs were excellent; its nice seeing people from the great white north enjoying themselves in the 80+F days.Moved toward Vero Beach, sleeping at a rest stop along the way; got to see the sun come up over the ocean - a spectacular view but impossible to photograph without some special filters (which I obviously don't have).
