The second time trying to cross the
border with Cindy and Bogie, I was refused admission to the US even
after also being interviewed by the supervisor at our request. As
requested from my first visit, I had assembled my bank records showing significant
savings and $45K available credit (plus US$800 and CDN$600 cash on
hand). I also had Shari & Zach's wedding invitation with
non-refundable return flight from Milwaukee to NYC plus my son's
wedding invitation with non-refundable ticket for Korea from Toronto
on July 11, 2012 (return to Toronto July 24) proving that I was
returning to Canada.

In both cases the problem was my trip
to Alaska last summer (at Barrack Obama's request for visitors?)
which put me over 6 months in the USA in a calendar year. My ongoing
problem is that I am homeless (by choice) and stay with my sister and
Mom plus campsites when in Canada; ergo, I cannot show evidence of a
foreign residence other than all my mail, credit cards, drivers
license and passports (they want deeds, leases and utility bills). As
a retired Professional Engineer (and Certified Project Management
Professional) with a Bell Canada pension plus Canada Pension death
benefits which provide significant living expenses after taxes and I
will also draw Canada Pension and Old Age Security next April when I
turn 65. In Canada, I have 3 children (plus one in Turkey), 3
siblings with their families and also my mother; I am also seeing my
Doctor here twice a year to renew my medications plus yearly
physicals. Why would I give up my health coverage and pensions to
move to the USA??? Also I have crossed the US border over 300 times
in the past 50 years and always returned to Canada... AND I always
To finish my rant, I think it is about
time for the border people to change their views on what homeland
security really means. Surely it can't mean draining money from their
economy by refusing US visitors; I surely don't pose much of a
threat – I don't even kill things unless I'm hungry or bugs are
biting me. Maybe they should relocate some of the numerous border
guards sitting around (literally) in the Soo office to the Mexican
border to fight drug cartels instead of harassing harmless legitimate
As my travelling son keeps telling me,
Asia is cheaper than being a snowbird in Florida but I hope it
doesn't come to that since I don't want to lose my close ties (aka
Cindy) with the Everglades.
