After impulsively deciding to skip Montevideo until the weekend for Punta Del Diablo I am at this 'secluded' and 'isolated' resort. These words unfortunately are those of Lonely Planet and this resort so far seems to be just packed full of Lonely Planet Bible readers (OK I have the book as well but that's different) and designer backpackers (with my 7kilo bag and my 3 T-shirts, I am definitely not one of them). Lonely Planet also said that Uruguayan buses were a joy to ride and this was fairly true until the bus I was on sprung a leak in the row behind me leaving my bag fairly wet and the coach floor a messy swimming pool of oil and -predominantly- water.
Because of the delay we got to the resort fairly late and ended up having to pay 55US each for the 2 nights at this rip of a hostel, it seems to be full of Americans and French but it does at least have an English keyboard! I hope the day gets better, I missed a beautiful sunrise from my balcony because I was in the bloody shower! Woke up at 7am this morning, what on earth is wrong with me?!
Colonia was a good experience, the town was lovely, I think quaint is the word! Met some amusing Chileans an Argentinian who impressively sported a full beard on his passport photo (we found that funny enough even before he said he was 17 at the time it was taken) it was hillarious to argue with these people about cultural stuff after the beer had started flowing, mainly football with the Argentine and mainly food with the Chileans after one of them had commented on his short stint in London leading him to decide that English food was crap (has he not had a full Roast!?). Another highlight was watching the Sunset over the sea in this bar followed by the lunar eclipse later on.
There seem to be a lot of those here.
