The Central Highlands covers the southern part of the Touong Son mountain range and is home to many ethnic groups. Renowned for its cool climate (hmmm), mountain scenery, streams and waterfalls.

The journey inland was in a transit van / race car which was fairly worrying at times but some good views all the same! Also on the road were some half tractor / half wheel barrow machines trundling along slowly filled with people, animals, crops etc. etc.. We arrived Into BMT late and had traditional spring rolls for dinner comprised of rice paper, deep fried rice paper, grilled pork, various salads and a peanut sauce. Very tasty! Temperatures surprisingly similar to the coast, no break from the heat as was expected.

Got up early and jumped on a local bus out to Lak Village, just over an hour out of Buon Ma Thuot. After some food we had a walk through the village and around Lak Lake. Baking hot and unsure of what to do next we popped into a tourist information centre and got some advice and a local map. Tours were expensive so we decided to go it alone. We walked to Le village, where te houses were all traditional 'long houses' built on stilts. Most were pretty old but a few were ultra-modern - concrete with satellite TV! After Le village we walked past some paddies with rice drying on the road, the locals hard at work. The next village along was called Jun, more set up for tourists. A couple of sad-looking elephants were tied up and stalls were selling the usual souvenirs. We wandered back to Lak, had a drink with some locals and caught the bus back to Buon Ma Thuot. Had a relaxing evening, early start in the morning...
