. They told us that it looked like a cobra; admittedly I don't know much about snakes, but I don't think they get cobras in Australia so I wasn't convinced. However as we were leaving to catch our bus we saw a couple of people standing around in a circle all staring at the floor and, sure enough, there was a massive snake curled up against one of the hostel sheds. I still don't think it was a cobra (don't they have funny shaped heads?) but whatever it was, it was bloody huge... a 'should be kept in the zoo' type of snake. After our two hour bus ride we arrived in Hervey Bay and got picked up by our next hostel. The hostel that we are staying in here is called the Friendly Hostel and was recommended to us by some people we became friends with in Noosa. We are very grateful that they did so because it is really lovely here and we have landed ourselves in a great room. We are in a 4 bed dorm room but rather than it being in a big hostel building, we are in a holiday apartment with our own bathroom, kitken and living room. Apart from our dorm room, there is only one other dorm room which has two girls staying in it called Katrine (from Denmark) and Aurore (from France). They are traveling around Oz and ended up becoming cleaners at this hostel. They are both so lovely and we got settled into the apartment with them really quick; plus there are some perks to living with the cleaners... we get to share their free DVD hire, the apartment is always spotless and they share all the free food with us which they pick up when they clean the apartments.... mmmm free milkshake and wine, yummy! We also booked ourselves onto a Fraser Island trip for the following day as the weather had improved slightly, fingers crossed we'll have a great time.
So today we left Rainbow Beach and headed up to our next desitination Hervey Bay. The weather hadn't been too great while we were in Rainbow Beach so we ended up postponing our trip to Fraser Island so we will now being doing it from Hervey Bay instead. Our bus wasn't until lunchtime so we spent most of the morning down by the beach reading and relaxing. We had been up since the crack of dawn as the hostel we were staying in offered a free pancake breakfast.... it was one of the main reasons we decided to stay there! However once we got here we found out that breakfast is served at 7am on the dot when they bring out a big tray of hot pancakes; if you get there at 7:05am then chances are there will be none left. So we were up in time for our pancakes but unfortunatley it was like eating a couple of bricks for breakfast and we consoled ourselves with the free tea and coffee instead. There were rumours going around the hostel that a huge snake had been spotted outside the hostel last night, in fact it was the two Irish guys in our room which had seen it
