! In the end we didn't really get up to much in Katoomba for the day, apart from making ourselves a picnic and parking our bums in the park to enjoy the small glimpses of sun which we could catch (we've still not had a single fully sunny day since we got into Oz). After we'd had our tea we caught the 8pm train back into Sydney and got a right eye-full from some of the girls on there - not only was it a Saturday (so the skirts were pretty short anyway) but it was also Halloween. And my god did we see some scary sights that night! I must be getting old because some of the dresses the girls were wearing brought tears to my eyes- one girl was just walking down the street in a thong bikini as her halloween outfit, fair play though it was pretty gastly sight! By 11pm we were tucked up on the Greyhound coach and were on our way out of Sydeny and on to Coff's Harbour- we got to drive out over the Harbour Bridge and see the Opera House lit up beautifully! However despite it being nearly midnight we stil managed to get caught in city traffic for almost an hour. The bus took a rest break at about 2am and up until then we had both managed to sleep quite well. At the rest stop I treated myself to an early morning packet of Maltesaurs and Tom left a very sleepy answer-phone message for his parents back at home. From there neither of us slept very well and we rolled into Coff's Harbour at 6:30am feeling absolutely knackered! Luckily the hostel we had booked with had offered to pick us up, so we dropped our bags into their mini-bus and were very grateful we didn't have to walk the 20 minutes to the hostel. The mini-bus driver tried to take us to a lookout point to see the sunrise over the ocean however we both looked liked zombies and didn't really take the whole experience in very well. So once we were checked into our new hostel we flopped into bed at 8am and didn't wake up again until gone 1pm!
Our plan for the day was to get the train back into Sydney and to then start our journey up the east coast by getting our first coach trip on the Greyhound bus. Our first stop up the east coast is a little seaside town called Coff's Harbour, which is about 9 hours drive from Sydney. As it is going to be such a long bus journey we decided to get the night bus with the hope that we would be able to get some sleep on the coach and wake up fresh-faced (yeah right) and enjoy a full day in our new town; we were leaving Sydney at 11pm and getting into Coff's Harbour at 6:35am. So as we didn't need to be in Sydney until late we decided to spend the day in our current town of Katoomba and then get a late train into Sydney just in time for us to get off the train and straight on to the coach. The lady who owns our hostel had offered to look after our bags for the day and allowed us to use the hostel as a base even though we had checked out of our room; I think that the couple of glasses of wine which we shared with her last night helped to oil the wheels a bit
