. Heathrow airport is huge!! Once we got through security and had our last meal in Britain (a cheese and pickle bagguete, it was perfect) it was time to get on our flight to Hong Kong. The plane was massive, but we had our own little tvs and more food then we could eat! I had a very strange moment when I suddenly thought 'hmm, its 3 o'clock in the afternoon, i'm somewhere over over Russia, eating a Twix ice-cream and watching The A-Team... its a funny old world!' Because of the direction we were traveling in at about 4pm the plane went into night-time. All of the lights went out in the plane and people started to fall asleep, it was very surreal! The plane stayed like that for the next 5 hours or so and we managed to catch up on some sleep. When we finally landed at 7am (midnight in the UK), our legs and bums had gone completly numb and we were glad to get off the plane. Before we even got to the terminal you could feel the heat outside... if we had known how hot is was going to get later in the day!
Well this is it, the first day of our trip!! Neither of us slept very well the night before we flew but we needed to be up at 2:50am to get to the airport in time for our check-in at 5am. Despite not sleeping very well as soon as the alarm went off we were both wide-awake. After getting ready and saying our last goodbyes to Toms mum we headed off to the airport. It felt like the longest car journey ever!! Once we got to the airport we said a long goodbye to Toms dad (thank you for the lift to the airport!) and we headed inside. We tried to use the self check-in service only to find that they didnt work properly and the attendant had to help us (he ended up having to help everyone, poor bugger) and then took our bags down to the baggage-inspection. Waiting in the departure lounge was pretty awful, we both felt very nervous, not least because one of us hates flying (can you guess which one?!). Once we got onto our quick flight to London we started to settle down a bit and after a quick bacon butty (Tom got both of them) and a cup of tea it was time to come down again and we arrived in London in no time
