Hello again!

After the ordeal that was a couple of days in Bangalore, Chennai has more than made up for it. Whereas the people of Bangalore were rude, seedy and made us feel so unwelcome
Queuing for train tickets

(while I was buying some food from a street stall outside the train station, one guy turned to Charlie and said "English are shit". Shocked, Charlie asked "I beg your pardon?", to which he replied "Oh shut up"!! Charlie went into 'teacher mode', telling him how rude it is to talk to people like that, and turned her back on him!), the people of Chennai are so friendly and happy and now Charlie is feeling like a celebrity from the attention, rather than a leper!

(I'd just like to say that, as we are writing this, a youth on the PC across from us is looking at websites 'he didn't ought to be looking at' and looks as if he's shining a cricket ball on his trousers - it's very off-putting!! Sorry, no photo - you'll just have to imagine...)

Our time in Chennai has been a mixture of catching up on sleep after two nights' traveling and Charlie getting her 'kid fix' playing with the local street children.

On a wander one day we found ourselves outside a huge Muslim mosque. As we approached to take a look inside, a man with a big stick ran out and chased us away!! Obviously our George Bush t-shirts weren't welcome!!

We've just checked out of our room and we're now killing time until we go to the airport tonight - 10 days in Sri Lanka awaits.....
Cheerio for now, the next time we write we could be in Colombo (the capital of Sri Lanka, not the one-eyed detective!).

Cease cruelty to soft animals now
After the wonderful blog that Percy wrote, and his near miss with a cigarette end, you had to go and treat him like that. Hope he's fully recovered now. Good to see you stuck it out for another day in Bangalore and that you had such a good time in Chennai to help wipe away the bad ones. I must say you are both looking very happy and healthy and hopefully Percy is back to his old self now. Missing you lots and still automatically look out for you on the terraces Tom. Lots of love to you from us all here. Nan Turner and Nan & Grandad Varley said to say they are thinking of you.Mum & Dad xxxx

Go crazy in Colombo
Can't believe you guys have been gone nearly a month now! So glad you're loving it. Sri Lanka is so lush I think you'll want to stay longer (I worked in the Women's hospital in Colombo for a month - such nice people and such wicked places to see and explore!)

I'm on hols at the moment in Venezuela - it feels like the surface of the sun and wish we knew any spanish. Went sleeping in the jungle which was very freaky!

Happy travelling, can't wait for your next installments.

Lots of love Jems xxx

PS you must fing Odel in Colombo - any clothes that are made for Gap, DKNY even M and S knickers in Sri Lanka a portion are sold here for next to nothing - if you need clean but nice clothes this is the place to go!! x

Postcards and school lessons.
Sounds like you're having a great time, but I don't know how you find the energy! Thanks for the boys' monkey postcard - still the fave pics, although the cow ones are popular too. You will be pleased to know that you are reaching a wide audience - Jacob's class looked at one set of pictures in the ICT suite at school today! Apparently Tom dancing made them laugh! Can't think why! Love to you both. Shell, Nath, Jacob and Zach.
