So we took the flight, and got to Bukittingi, and decided, intstead we would stay here a night, and then head to Lake Toba tommorrow. We thought the bus ride there was to be around 12 hours, and have come to find out that it is more like 21 now, because there was a landslide on the main road, meaning we have to take a roundabout way on a shitty road. We hopefully have booked a ticket, though we are not soo positive after all the misleadings we have had in Indo so far.
Today was a nice day actually. We had a knock at the door at around 20 to eight, and were served breakfast in bed, which was nice though it was also our wake up call. We slowly got through breakfast and then once the sun came out and burned off the mist we had a walk to "Panorama Park", where there is a gorgeous view of the canyon below. We dodged every offer for anything, and made our way through the park. We proceeded to the market where we stocked up on snacks and some fruit for out bus ride. We then sat down in the park for a rest, and we again affronted by just about every school kid in sight, to practice their English. We had thought about speaking in Spanish and pretending not to understand when this happened, but neither I or Amanda has the heart for this. Soon afterwards we were approached by everyone in the courtyard, wanting to take pictures with us. We again obliged, not wanting to offend. This practice really makes me feel like some sort of street performer or circus act. Amanda and I giggled and talked through the whole ordeal, probably just gibberish to them. Finally, during a reprieve, we decided to take a walk, before we were apporached by someone else. We ended up walking on to the end of town, and seeing a neat building off in the distance, and went to get a better view of it. We were hoping to get right up to it, but we took a wrong turn and ended up at the bottom of the hill it was on. We got a great view though. On the way back we stopped off for lunch at a local place, and really enjoyed it. We shared like 5 different dishes, plus a fresh made chili sauce. We thought maybe it was going to be really expensive, because by the end we were both thouroughly stuffed. It came out to $2.5. We laughed as we walked away at just how cheap the local places can be.
Now we are fearing our bus ride that begins tommorrow, sitting in a cafe. But afterwards we have 4 days at the lake. Well earned
