Penang, island, state, city. Took an afternoon bus up from Ipoh, after another wonderful meal prepared by Soh. We got into our hostel fairly quickly and easily, and then had a wander around town. Caught some alright Chinese, which was overpriced, for dinner, and couldn't help but miss our home away from home already.
Today has been ridiculously hot, and we are hiding the afternoon out in an internet cafe, filled with air-con. We had a nice walk around this morning, finding a local specialty, Yu Char Kuih, basically a long donut, a savoury one though. Followed up by Roti Canai, and Roti Pisang with a bit of curry. We searched out the Indonesian Embassy, which was closed, and then walked around to have a look at some old buildings in town, as well as an old cemetary. By this time the sun had gotten pretty high in the sky, and we got some coconut shakes to cool off. Then we had some noodles and found ourselves here.
Should be off to the beaches tommorrow, and then on to the East coast on Monday.
Actually, we ended up meeting this guy Tom who is living out at the beaches that evening. He took us out to Batu Ferengi, and we proceeded to have about 10 beers each, and get down with a bunch of Muslims who are not supposed to be drinking, or in fact out of their clothes. Which they were both. The music stopped early, around 12, but we ended up staying till 3 or so and not getting off to bed till round 4. That is pretty late for us lately, seeing as we have no friends, and don't really like hanging out in the backpacker's scene. Any who, the next day was a wash, and we headed to Kota Bharu early the morning after.
