Where I stayed
Caught the bus from Brisbane down to, as they call it Surfers Pardise. The waves the babes and all that. Not that it is exactly our scene, but if your coming down the Gold Coast, you sort of have to stop by and see it all.
We got some crappy weather and nobody was on the beach. I had read about this little place a few km's down the road so we took the bus down there in search of live music. It was about 1 in the afternoon when we got there, and it was dead. Apparantly it started around 8 AM and was done by noon. We headed down the beach for a swim, played int the big surf for a while before heading back to town.
Surfers Paradise is quite surreal really. It reminds me of what I think about Miami Beach. The long beautiful stretch of beach, cluttered with high rise hotels, resorts and the such. As we drove back from Nobby Beach, 5 km south, I was awed by the spectacle that it is
Back at the hostel we got down to getting dinner ready, and started a chat with Seth, who was cooking his dinner as well. Turned out he was travelling with an Amanda as well. We ended up chatting with them over our respective bottles of wine, then going to get more wine, and more conversation ensued. They had been on Antarctica for the past six months working as support staff for the scientists there, and we drilled them with questions about it. But the conversation floated all over the place, it is so nice to find some like minded people, especially from the States. Chatting about home is always nice. We decided we would all meet up in Byron Bay the next day. We stood up and realized, those four bottles of wine, were definately taking their effect, time for bed.

In the distance
. Amazed by just the sheer amount of hotels, I began to wonder exactly how many people could this beach city accomodate.Back at the hostel we got down to getting dinner ready, and started a chat with Seth, who was cooking his dinner as well.
