Wen, Barbara, Katerina & I set off to visit Roskilde, the former capital of Denmark and location of the famous Viking Ship Museum. Our day did not start off well, with the train before ours breaking down, causing us to have to wait for over an hour.

Once we finally got to Roskilde, we had a nice walk around the town and then got some traditional Danish fare from a beer house. I had a really nice smorbrod with a generous serving of sliced roast beef.

After lunch, we made the trek down the hill (yes, the first real hill I have seen in Denmark) to the Viking Ship Museum. The museum contained some interesting information about the Viking ages along with some replicas of the Viking ships they have found in the harbour nearby. Overall, however, it was a pretty boring museum that just seemed rather empty. I would not recommend a separate trip to go and see it.

After leaving someone disappointed from the museum, we trekked back up the hill (with a couple of rest/photo stops) towards town. Wen & I shared a serving of Chiros, which was delicious. Chiros are a sort of long, thin Spanish waffle, served with sugar and chocolate sauce - really quite moreish.

So, while there wasn't that much to see in the town of Roskilde, and the Viking Ship Museum seemed incomplete, the delicious food more than made up for that and it turned out to be quite a pleasant trip.
