After flying from Istanbul via Riga (Latvia), I finally arrived in wonderful Copenhagen at about 7pm. I was greeted by my buddy, Christian, with a cold Tuborg and then we were off to find where I would be living for my next 4 months. After a quick tour of the city we found my room at Holger Danskes Vej and Christian left me to get to know my fellow residents. The rest of the night was spent drinking and getting to know the other people from all over the world.

The next day, a group of us went on a trip to Christiania. It is an extremely unusual place. There are weird, goth looking people walking around in strange costumes and with red and black hair. Also there are a lot of hippies there. Apparently Christiania is its own city-state within the city of Copenhagen. It is a taken over military barracks that has been converted into a little self regulated community. According to my crash course teacher, it started off very well and everyone was happy with the way it was going - everyone shared goods and drugs were legal. But then the hard drugs started becoming more prevalent and this attracted different gangs. Currently there are two rival bikie gangs and one younger muslim gang which are causing a lot of trouble in recent times. That afternoon, I went and picked Luke up from the airport.

The following few days went by with a steady routine of crash course in the morning, resting in the afternoon and going out and partying at night. Luke went to visit a friend in another part of Denmark. Back in Copenhagen we had a BBQ by the canals, Danish hygge at Nexus on campus, a canal tour, and an international buffet where everyone had to bring food from their own nation.

On Thursday I took a day off from crash course class and went sightseeing with Luke. We went and saw some of the castles in Copenhagen, visited the little mermaid, saw the changing of the guard at the Queens' castle, visited the national museum, and went on a tour of the Carlsberg brewery. That night we all went to the Australian Bar to give Luke a send off as he would be flying out to Boston the next day.
