so after the rather chaotic, filthy, and smelly start in Tamil Nadu, Kerala could only be better since other travellers have told us how beautiful and amazing it is (hence why its called "God's Own Country"). However, we have to remember that we are still in India so we still have low expectations.
Our first stop in Kerala was Kovalam, a "major" beach resort in South India. It is regarded as India's most "developed" resort, however, in reality this meant a sliver of beach with bumper to bumper guesthouses, hotels, restaurants, and tacky tourist shops overcrowding this once calm fishing village. The main beach at Kovalam is dominated by the lighthouse that resides on top of the cliff, and makes for a romantic setting at night
We were also glad to hear that the monsoon hadn't really arrived, and if
it did it should of come months ago. So off to a good start we feel, no
monsoon in monsoon season. Therefore, we anticipated that we could do some sunbathing but being in India Hollie was uncomfortable as there were male Indian day trippers stalking the beach, gawking at the european women in bikinis. Instead, what we did enjoy was sitting at one of the many beach side restaurants eating (of course), reading a book, and listening to the crash of the waves. Soppy as it sounds.
