Hi all,

After non-stop sightseeing in Japan we decided to ease off the travelling and spend a few leisurely days in the Hill Country of Sri Lanka. The views in Ella are stunning and perched at the top of a mountain we were surrounded by gorgeous jungle and tea estates. Our guesthouse was perched on a hillside opposite a waterfall, 2km out of town and away from any noise. It made a great location to go for walks along the train tracks and upto Ella's Rock and over Ella Gap.

We filled our days with lazy walks on the rail track to reach the surrounding tea plantations and waterfalls. Our guesthouse, Waterfalls Homestay, was one of the best we have stayed in and eating breakfast with monkeys above us in the trees was quite unreal. The Australian owner was amazing and cooked the best Sri Lankan food we’d ever tasted. It was especially nice sitting on the veranda with a proper cup of tea and a few muffins for good measure. We would highly recommend the guesthouse to anyone.

After spending 3 nights here we caught the train to Colombo. The journey was amazing as we travelled through bright green tea plantations and paddy fields, high above the hills. Again we would highly recommend this trip even if you have a driver. The journey from Ella to the "Little England" toytown ambience of Nuwara Eliya is especially nice.

Unfortunately we were only in Sri Lanka for 10 days to get our visas to India, luckily we got them the night before our flight. We could definitely spent longer in this beautiful country and its a place we plan to return to one day.

Love Thomas and Hollie x x x
