Where I stayed
Ilha de Santa Catarina boasts 560km of spectacular coastline with deserted beaches, excellent snorkelling, diving and surfing. The island is connected by a causeway that connects it to the mainland and the main city of Florianopolis. After a nights stay here we decided to stay in Lagoa da Conceicao which has all the island's 42 beaches within a hour's reach and is the nighlife hotspot of the island (Voted the Number 1 Party Destination of 2009 by The New York Times). Our hostel was right next to Lagoa da Conceicao, a pretty lagoon where people were paragliding, windsurfing and kite-surfing everyday. The lagoon is also close to Praia to Mole, a beach that is famous for its gorgeous people and world class waves that reach upto 3m high....not that we can surf (yet!). The beach is beautiful but as you can see from the pictures the weather was not great.
Unfortunately we only stayed in Florianopolis for a few days but you could easily spend a week or so here just visiting the stunning beaches all over Ilha de Santa Catarina
If we were to return we would probably head towards the south of the island which is the most pristine and picturesque with white sand beaches and villages such as Riberirao da Ilha that specialise in oysters. The beaches in the south include Praia dos Naufragados and Praia do Campeche where you can visit Ilha do Campeche, an ecological reserve perfect for snorkelling.
This was our last stop in Brazil before our 27 hour bus to Buenos Aires, Argentina!!
All our love,
Hollie and Thomas x x
