Hi all,

Unfortunately when we arrived at Ilha do Mel the weather was a bit pants to say the least. But nevertheless, the island was still beautiful and very quiet; perfect for doing nothing. It is regarded as one of the most pristine beaches in all of southern Brazil due to its isolation.

In order to visit the island you have you register on the mainland, Pontal do Sul, as there is a cap on the island's population (5000 people only). However, during our stay we only saw about 20 people max and we were the only travellers to be seen. Accessible only by boat, the island has only sandy paths, it lacks a single car or golf buggy as the whole island can be walked in a few hours.

The northern half of the island is an ecological preserve, closed to any exploration. The southern portion is home to 3 small villages: Nova Brasilla, Praia do Foral and Encantadas. Ilha do Mel (or Island of Honey) is a hot spot for surfers, campers, birders and escapists in search of simplicity and serentiy. Our few days stay was just lovely.

All our love,

Hollie and Thomas xx
