We saw an old distillery which served illegal booze during the prohibition era, stopped at Half Moon Bay and were amazed that the beach was packed even though it was freezing cold...maybe its not just the English who brave the weather to sit on the beach!
We wound our way along the coast stopping every now and again to take a picture and then we saw a small sign sawing fresh strawberries...so we made a little detour and ended up with 6 punnets of strawberries for $8. We asked if we could just have one and the guy said, " where y'all from Virginia or sumthing?" Not sure what that meant?!? Either way we ended up with a lot of strawberries and just to protect them, we buckled them up in the backseat!
Heading off down the coast we came to Santa Cruz which apparently by some freak of geography has some of the best weather in central California. Alright! So we parked up and sat on the beach for a bit munching away on our strawberries. At the end of the beach is an old wooden 1920s rollercoaster which we thought we should check out and was pretty scary...Julesy was waving her arms around in the air and screaming away, whilst I was clinging onto the seat :)
After Santa Cruz in was a leisurely drive into Monterey where we spent the night playing cards and reading some tourist books.
