Thankfully our driving distance today was only 170 miles from Bishop to Yosemite, especially after the marathon 9 hours yesterday. We did sleep well though... On the way out of Bishop we stopped for supplies and began looking for a nice place to eat our breakfast. Just out of the town we stumbled upon a great lit tle park where there was a junior softball game going on. So we parked ourselves out at the edge of the field and had our cereals whilst all the proud mums and dads cheered on their kids! It was really good fun!
We didn't want to spend too long there and so headed off up the road to Yosemite. Had a quick stop at Lake Mono, just to see what its all about (and becuase we missed the entrance to the park!), before driving into the park to look for a nice lunch stop. We ended up sitting on a rock in the middle of a bubbling stream eating our sarnies! Very cool.
Back in the car we wound our way along the road, checking out the scenic points along the way, which took rather a while as there are so many stops. The scenery there is incredible, with massive granite monoliths and waterfalls. The only problem was that all the accommodation in the park was full and so we'd have to drive out to find somewhere to sleep. Another motel looked on the cards.
The first one we stopped at, which wasn't full or cost over $100, was really strange. It was run by a Chinese man, who didn't seem to want us to take a room. And seemed to think we wouldn't be able to afford it either. The room wasn't that great to be fair and so we told him we'd be back soon once we'd got some money...yeah right!
The hostel we ended up in, in Mariposa was so much nicer and it had a bbq and a pool! We fired up the bbq that night for some steak sandwiches and relaxed in our room watching good old American tv.
