Day 25 - Meteora to Kavalla
Another drive day - this part of the trip is the worst as we are only staying 1 night in each small town so there is a lot of putting up and pulling down of tents and a lot of driving. We usually have 'service stops' every 2 hours - time to go to the bathroom and stock up on junk food - except today was Greek Easter Sunday and EVERYTHING was closed - even the gas stations. This meant doing 'bush stops' along the way. Nev would find a hidden area and people bursting to go to the toilet would run off the bus and scatter in all directions, looking for some privacy. From the bus you could probably only see heads popping up to see if anybody was looking ( I wouldn't really know as I was one of the heads!)
We arrived at the Kavalla campsite expecting something close to a Greek Paradise. Katie had said our campsite was on the beach and there would be no one else there so we had pretty high expectations. Reality was somewhat different: the grass was up to our waists, there were spiders everywhere and the piece da resistance - raw sewerage leaking from the toilets! LOVELY! We had no choice about camping here - everything else in town was closed. Even driving around trying to find a supermarket so Brad could get some extra food for lunch the next day was futile. The beach itself wasn't bad and we hung out there until it got dark, playing cricket or just relaxing. I went swimming, even though it was cold, but I was the only girl. A few guys got in and then suffered some inexplicable disease that caused them to constantly duck dive and pull their shorts down thus exposing their white butts - I don't understand it.
During dinner Ang came to me and asked if I would do her a favour: Tanya, Nev and herself were going to go skinny dipping and they wanted me to take their photo - after all I was official tour photographer. The signal came and the 4 of us snuck down to the beach. It was so dark that I was literally pointing the camera in their direction and hoping that I got them in the picture. Katie even used one of the pictures as her wallpaper for about half the trip. More thumbnails ...
