What a final day. We havent been blown away by our time in Los Angeles but Universal Studios Hollywood was definitely a high point. We were up at 8.30 and soon tucking into another delicious omelette at our hotel. A short trip on the Metro train and free shuttle transfer had us inside Universal Studios a fraction after its 10am opening time. We planned our day perfectly, getting to each and every show, and riding each ride at least twice. Overall we enjoyed the park far more than Disneyland. The atmosphere was better, less childish, the rides faster and more adventurous and shows far more spectacular. It was a thrill to feel a part of the movies, an authentic experience, amongst the studios movies are made, among all the glitz and glamour of Hollywood. Further, unlike the carbon copy of many attractions between Disneyland Paris and Disneyland Anaheim, a majority of attractions here were fresh unique experiences.
We kicked off with Shrek 4D. This one was a replica of the show we saw in Singapore Universal Studios, but still a bit of fun. Its a short Shrek film, on an adventure to rescue Princess Fiona, being splashed by sneezes, tickled by spiders and scorched by dragons along the way, feeling the effects and seeing it in 3D. Next, on to the scariest horror ride I have ever been on, a Horror House experience, where you re actually attacked by various fiendish characters from the movies. It was a dark horror themed maze, where all sorts of creatures would jump out at you from every corner. Not robots, or a hillbilly in a cape, but Chucky, demons, zombies, the Texas chainsaw villain, and all sorts of hideous abominations. The actors were excellent.
Next, some rides, to beat the queues. First up, the Mummy ride and a worlds first; not only was there no line, we walked right onto the ride without stopping, but when it was over, there was still no line, and we could stay on and go again! The ride itself was excellent, a fast coaster in the dark, forwards and backwards, escaping mummies. Next, a photo with Optimus Prime. That was a pretty impressive robot! The transformers ride to follow was the same as Singapore but seemed faster with better 4d effects. We walked straight on, as with the next ride being Jurassic park. This was a water ride amidst dinosaurs, finishing with an attack from a huge T Rex and 80 metre drop. We got wet, but not soaked like in Disneyland.
Time for some more shows, first a Special Effects show. Its amazing what they can do with props, technology and blue screens. The waterworld show to follow was our last replica experience, being the same as Singapore Universal. It was still spectacular none the less with more renowned actors from the movies. Next, lunch a nutritious chili cheese burger. Awesome. Our final stage show of the day involved different Hollywood Stars, Animals; cats, dogs, rabbits, chickens, eagles, guinea pigs, actual pigs and more, some more cooperative than others.
The only ride left was the Simpsons ride. Our longest wait of 20 minutes for the day wasn't bad. This was pretty cool, being immersed in a 4d Simpsons world, trying to escape Krustyland and the clutches of Sideshow Bob. Our last activity of the day was one of the best, an hour long Studio tour. Not only did we get to travel around the sets and see where many famous films and shows are made, but also to be exposed to being a part of them. We passed through Skull Cave, home of the worlds biggest 4D experience amidst battling King Kong and T Rexes. There was also an experience with Jaws, a flash flood and subway earthquake.
Having conquered everything in the park, we still had time left over to ride Transformers twice more, as well as the Mummy, Simpsons and Jurassic Park again. Yesterday, we were accepting of the end of our trip. Today, with adrenaline up and such a fun time, we were sad to see the sun setting. We spent The evening among the glamour of Universal City walk, having dinner at ...., Chili Lime Sweet Potato fries, meatloaf, and a couple local beers on the menu. So then, we retired at our hotel for our last night abroad. Tomorrow we plan a visit to the beach to round off our time overseas.
