Day 6 - Redwood Forest, Wilder Ridge and Mottole Road

Another beautiful sunny day and not a cloud to be seen. This morning we drove south to the Redwood Forest to see the Avenue of the Giants. Never have we seen trees so huge!! It is totally wild how the road winds around the monster trees. This place is beautiful and once again the pictures don't do it justice.

We read about a back road to the coast on the net that was supposed to be a great ride off we went. Once again an adventure. This is where I should note that the information was posted on an dual sport bike web site.....Harley riders beware. LOL. Wound through the hills to get us to the coast. Some places were straight up, 45 degree hills, dirt roads, rough pavement, pot holes, and hairpin turns.  To make it completely stupid there were deer, squirrels, and the flocks of vultures eating the dead aOnce we navigated through this we ended up on the coast....fantastic!! Then to get back in land we had to climb "Hell Cat"....Todd was leaning forward on the bike the entire way up ...afraid that we were going to tip back over...well over 45 degrees up...completely insane. We found out the name of this section of road from a local guy we met when we had lunch. He passed us on the road....when he found out that we had come all the way through this road from the Avenue of the Giants his comment was "those locals over there are crazy...what a ride!".  Lunch was in Ferndale. Victorian town. Great homes and buildings...and great people. (pic's included of the Gingerbread House).

When this ride was were we. Back in Eureka for the night. Pool, hot tub and steak at the Lost Coast Brewery. Now everyone knows Todd is the beer drinker and I'll stick to my Jack but I have to say this place has the most awesome Tangerine Wheat Beer. Wasn't a bad thing to go back there again tonight.  The local Irish Pub is between the Lost Coast and the hotel....great place to stop for a night cap on the way home.

Tomorrow, heading north on the Pacific Coast Highway and back to Oregon and Crater Lake.
