Hello BCCS friends!
We had a safe, uneventful, and early flight to Bucharest via Frankfurt on Lufthansa. A little weary and bleary, but we have a wonderful old hotel (the Capitol Hotel www.hotelcapitol.ro) right in the heart of the city shopping, business, and arts district. Bucharest is a vibrant modern city with lots of hustle and bustle, but at a more relaxed pace than what you might find in the US. It's quite warm (90's) but people are friendly, our guides have been gracious. I even found a classical CD shop with recordings of Romanian choral music unavailable in the US just around the corner. Lots of casinos here, too, which may be what Philly is going to look like soon. Tonight we have a banquet at a restaurant on a lake, with a visit from traditional dancers for dessert.
Tomorrow, after a tour of the city in the morning, we have our first rehearsal, in the Biserica Luterana where we will perform tomorrow night - wish us luck singing in Romanian for the first time in public! We had to change our program because of problems with the organ in the church, so we needed to do all our unaccompanied repertoire, including the three Romanian songs sent to us by the choir in Timisora who will be helping us sing them at our second concert in a few days - wish us luck! - Tom Lloyd
