I may or may not be married at this point, according to local Fijiian custom, but before I get into that let me give you some other details first.

Yesterday at 7:45AM our ship crossed the International Date Line and jumped forward 1 day.  I am now 1 day and 7 hours ahead of CST at home.

I woke this morning to the sound of a military band playing outside my room (right on the A-deck ggangway) on the dock.  It roused my sleepy body, which turned out perfect, so that I made it out on the dock by 9AM.  I approached the Shore Excursions assistant manager about the possibility of escorting a tour group and he instantly threw me on a bus!

I ended up on an island tour that ended at a cultural center.  The melodious voices of the local fijians greeted us upon arrival.  The group sported traditional dress and wandered around the "village", performing in various combinations of singers, while we shopped.

After a while we followed the beating of drums to the show area of the village.  After being ushered into bleacher seats the announcer approached me and gave permission to move to the far side of the "arena" so that I could get a great up close view of the main attraction - FIREWALKING.

After the men walked on extremely hot rocks for a while, the next attraction featured a coconut splitting competition between two young tribal men.  To make the contest more interesting they decided to play for a prize...ME.  Whoever split their pile of coconuts the fastest would win me as their bride.  After the contest, which ended quite fast, they decided maybe I was too important a prize for such an easy contest, so they upped the ante.  Whichever one could split a coconut with their bare hands first could then win me...one of them cheated and bashed it with a club.  Yikes, I hope he'll be nicer to me, his bride to be...  All in all a very lovely day in Fiji.

ps.  Slideshow coming tomorrow.

Re: The title a little scary.
In the slideshow there is one photo of two guys sitting on the ground. One is looking at the camera and one is pointing left off camera. Those are the boys! LOL
